Another topic for our final round of meetings before seeding.
We have 95% of our ’12 Canola acres seeing a Cereal crop this year so a lot of options compared to the poor buggers with a Pulse on Canola stubble.
5 bushels of windblown Canola is 250 lbs of seed. Even if all 250 lbs flush at the same time (which they won’t) a 95% kill will leave 12.5lbs. That is 3 Canola crops worth of seed.
In these cold soils we can see up to 21 days of residual with Pre-Pass in the Burnoff mix but we will have to monitor the Flash it will cause. Express likely less effect on the crop but only a few days of residual.
40% of our Cereal acres got Pre-Pass last fall which should be the ideal play going forward.
We will be scouting heavily for Post-Seed glyphosate & Heat/CleanStart opportunities as well as that may be the only help on the Pulses besides how well me can make the Sencor work. Odyssey better have a banner year. V.Canola control in Pulses is one of the many reasons we have our rotations switched around to avoid this. This may be a year to go right back to A cereal on these acres to get the rotation the right direction as the cool start will mean less V.Cabola germinated at burnoff and there will be wrecks in Pulses this year.
Get seeding rate up to help crop compete as it may have Canola competition all year no matter how strong our kill.
