Seeding Progress as of April 22nd: Canola 2.5%, Chickpea 4.3% = 1.1% of Total J-MAS acres (3.8% including W.Wheat)
World Weather Inc is highlighting normal to above normal potential for an early May frost in the East half of the Prairies.
W.Saskatchewan should be out of the zone but it’s 2 weeks before the event and patterns may change. Just keep in mind that a cool event is on the radar and don’t feel that you need half your acres in the ground this week.
J-MAS continues to believe that early seeding gives the best potential for above average yields but we must be aware of early May frost risk and we believe a good target is May 4th to be at the mid-point of seeding.
(i.e., if you believe it will take you 16 full days to seed your crop – 4500 acres at 275 acres per day), and we estimate 67% of days will be full, then 16/.67 = 24 days to seed. You should be starting April 22nd, at mid-point on May 4th, and finishing on May 16th – in a relatively perfect world).
Otherwise, … carry on!
